Faces of Islam is a series of television discussions which sets out to examine contemporary problems and issues in terms of twelve Islamic concepts: din, tawhid, kitab, sira, shariah, adl, ibadah, ilm, khalifa, dawa, jihad and ummah.
Some of the most original Muslim thinkers, writers, professionals and activists from as far apart as Pakistan and Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, Sudan and Turkey, Australia and Canada were invited to explain, explore and discuss how their chosen concept applied to the problems of the modern world. The overall emphasis of each programme is on developing a fresh, contemporary understanding of Islam. As such, the questioning tends to be highly critical and pet answers, historic palliatives and one-dimensional solutions are shunned.
